I just need a minute on the Oppo therapy couch. No need to respond, although I’m always willing to engage in deep conversation.
I have Type 1 diabetes. Have since I was 5. I’ve come to terms with it. I don’t need empathy, or sympathy. In fact that’s one of the two issues I have.
The first is that everyone assumes I’m fragile and feels sorry for me. I found out when I was about 17 that the reason that my older brother never beat me up when we were growing up was because of my diabetes. Like it makes me fucking fragile. And even those that don’t view me that way still sometimes have an overflowing sympathy and pity for me. I fucking HATE pity. It never did anyone any good, and diabetes hasn’t changed anything except my need to take a shot when I eat. FFS.
The other side though is people who think I just need to deal with it. Like in a militant aggressive way. Like you know when your kid asks for a dog, and you tell them how much work it will be, and then they still don’t want to put the work in anyway? Yeah, like that. Look, I didn’t ask for this shit, and 99% of these people are not diabetic. Long story short: not your disease, not your body, not my choice. Fuck off, I’d have a working pancreas if I could.
Long story short, don’t pity me, but don’t try to theaten me with my own impending death. I didn’t ask for this, butI’m dealing with it. And I’ve never had an issue in the 21 years I’ve been doing this shit. Thanks for listening Oppo.

You have to take a shot when you eat? Do you prefer vodka, rum, or something harder like everclear?

Ahh. I see your point. It is the smallness of man within the universe that allows our connection to that universe. It all makes sense now.

Could not agree more.

I feel the oppo therapy couch would be a race car bed.

no.
It's the smallness of OppoLogo.

Certifiable is definitely the word...

My mom is a diabetic. She was diagnosed when I was around 12, she never told us. I just noticed she started checking her blood sugar level and put it together and asked her about it. Why do people act like diabetics are about to die on the spot? She still lives her life the same as always, she just cuts back on sweets and stuff, and goes on walks/jogs more often. (Something pretty much everyone should do to some extent)
You, like my mom it seems, totally have managed your diabetes. Forget other people who go “ohhhh I’m so sorry :(“ without realizing that.

At 27 years old I’m stil trying to convince myself I don’t need one.

As seen at ToysRUs. I wish I’d fit...

Is your name Scott Malkinson?
Seriously though, my knees like to fall apart...I get pretty much the same thing, people who overly worry about me moving anywhere and people who think I’m just a pansy or faking....I just ignore them both *shrug*

Mine is not as managed as it should be, but I’m taking one step at a time. Getting married and having someone who needs me has pushed me much harder to get better control. Props to your mom having kids and still doing what it takes without any pat on the back. It can be a lonely disease, and it sounds like she’s being healthy and strong.

She already had all of us when she was diagnosed, so it definitely probably motivated her that she had a nice big family at home to help her out. One step at a time is all anyone can ask for man. Seriously, take em as small or as big as you want. A first step could be cutting back on dessert or going for a 20 minute walk with the wife everyday. All you gotta do is find what works for you and keep it up.
If cooking is your thing, I know my mom really enjoyed testing out new healthy recipes she found in those diabetic cook books.
Also, great point on it being a lonely disease. Being the only one with it in a family can be extremely tough, but you should always know those close to you will love you and push for you to stay healthy and happy.

No pity here. I know 2 people with insulin pumps. I kind of feel sorry for them because EVERYONE asks them about it.

Thanks for the support man. I really appreciate it.

I can’t do the pump. Something about having it in me all the time is just too much. I’m a big guy, but all my years of karate have made me able to move like a man my size shouldn’t be able to. So I have deep fears about the logistics. I’m basically on the same system, just with a disposable vial pen with pen tops that I switch in and out.

No problem at all. Btw, have you tuned the beetle?

Lol

Oh yes. I’ve now got a USP Intake (basically a rebranded Forge), APR Stage 1 tune, APR rear swaybar, and an 034 Dogbone Mount Insert. Need a clutch now, stage 1 is too much for it. Then I need some tires and an LSD.

I just stepped into the turbo game and boost season is coming (finally a reason to look forward to cold weather lol). I'm trying to decide if I should tackle suspension/handling first or go straight for the power.

Does your car have any of the M packages on it?
![]() 11/12/2015 at 22:15 |

I have the m-package suspension as a stand alone option, don't have the bumpers or shift knob though.

I’m sure if you needed it, you’d get used to the pump. A friend of mine is a plumber with a pump. He manages to weasel himself into spots for work that no human should be able to fit in. But, if you don’t need it, then no biggie!

Suspension can probably wait then. On turbo cars, tuning is as simple as a reflash, so Getting more power is literally an hour of software work. I would just do some research to find out if the stock clutch can take it, unless you wanted to upgrade that as well.
Other nice upgrades are going to be things like lighter wheels, stickier tires, thicker rear sway bar (helps get the car to rotate and keeps it flatter), a better torque arm/dog bone mount, and anything to help it shift better. I would say since winter is coming, save wheels/tires for Spring. The sway bar made the biggest impact on the daily drivability of my car, and they’re fairly cheap. So that might be an easy place to start.

You should probably get one.

There's enough talent on OPPO that we could probably make our own.

People are people, not their diseases. I dont think enough people outside of the medical profession know that and there are even those within the profession who forget that.

Sorry to hear about how some people are treating you.Honestly people need to get over their fixation with other people’s business. Especially those idiots who think they’re “so politically correct” that they start to become offensive by fetishizing someone’s personal difference.
Don’t worry, Oppo’s got your back ;)
![]() 11/12/2015 at 22:51 |

I don’t have diabetes, I have several other medical issues not visible to the naked eye......guess what, I don’t tell anyone about them.
Never complain, never explain.
I’m not trying to sound like a dick, but who gives a flying fuck what other people think about you? Give life 100% and fuck’em if they can’t take a joke.

yep - right there with you. Not the same thing, but I blew a disc in my 20s - completely changed my life, (and not really for the better.) I use several crutches to get the very most out of life but there are just some things I can’t do anymore. If you met me in person you’d never know - until you noticed one of my crutches. Honestly - I try to make people as comfortable with it so THEY don’t think it’s an issue.

the more time you spend not caring about what other people think is more time caring what other people think. I want to be able to not care about not caring about what other people think.
